I have a dishwasher that seems like fills up with water by itself. Every night when we use a dishwasher, on the next day we have some amount of clear standing water at the bottom of the dishwasher. Sometimes it began to leak on the floor if left unattended for couple days.
I was needed to press cancel/reset button on the dishwasher in order to drain water out . I have been dealing with this issue for a while and i am not sure what exactly caused this issue and how to fix it, but any help would be really appreciated. – Joseph
If you experiencing similar issues with your Bosch, Whirlpool, Maytag or Kenmore dishwashers then most likely you have an issue with:
Water Inlet valve
The reason why the water inlet valve allowing water to go through even when it’s being off, just because of calcium deposits builds up inside the valve solenoid and its stuck open.
This is very common for the areas with hard water.
So if you live in the area with the hard water, sooner or later you probably will have this issue with your dishwasher inlet valve.
Don’t wait until the dishwasher flooded the floor.
You need to replace the water inlet valve as soon as possible. There is no way to temporarily fix it, you just need to replace it.
The first thing that you need to do is to turn the dishwasher water tap under the sink OFF.
Then you need to locate the model number of your dishwasher.
Once you get the model number(usually located on the side of the tub), you can find the right part for your dishwasher.
In order to change the inlet valve, you will need to take the bottom kickplate out and you will see on the left side a water hose connected to the water inlet valve.
Every dishwasher has its own procedures on how to disassemble and how to change the inlet valve. Please do your research.
Check valve
The purpose of the check valve is to keep pressure and not allowing dirty water to backing up into the dishwasher from the sink, once water been drained.
The check valve works only in one direction, but if it’s damaged, water will be backing up.
The check valve located in the drain hose right after where it’s connected to the drain pump.
You will need to disconnect the drain hose from the drain pump and take a look inside a drain hose to make sure nothing is a jammed or clogged check valve(for example toothpicks or nutshells).
And also make sure that the check valve is not damaged.
Some Bosch and Samsung dishwasher models have accessible check valve from inside the tub of the dishwasher.
And it’s relatively easy to fix it. You will need to pull drain fine filter out and you will see the check valve.
Drain hose laying flat under the sink
Another issue could be when water backing up into the dishwasher is the position of the drain hose.
when it’s laying flat under the sink there is a big chance that the dirty water will be backing up from the sink pipe, every time when you using the sink.
For this reason, drain hose needs to be located high than the level of the home plumbing, at least 10inches high.
It’s called drain hose High Loop. This method preventing water from backing up into the dishwasher.
